KUALA LUMPUR: Children of the Tasputra Perkim daycare centre will soon be enjoying rides in a new Naza Ria MPV.
This became possible after a portion of the RM730,000 net proceeds from theWild Zebra shows organised by The Star and Artistry by Amway was handed over to the centre.
During a ceremony at the centre in Jalan Ampang Hilir yesterday, The Star‘s deputy group chief editor II Datuk Wong Chun Wai presented a RM100,000 mock cheque to the centre’s chairman, Elahe Norman.
Also present was Amway’s manager of public affairs Ting Fong Fong.
Elahe said the centre, a non-profit organisation, catered to the needs of 52 physically, visually and mentally handicapped children of various races.
The children were cared for by a staff of about 30. Eight foreign volunteers also help out at the centre.
The centre’s overall monthly expenditure comes to about RM32,000.
“We would really appreciate it if some kind souls could provide us with petrol vouchers as we have five vehicles to ferry the children to hospitals, which costs us RM1,400 each month,” Elahe said.
